Members of 4 legendary Perth bands, the Elks, Helicopters, Manikins, and Strung Out, unite for the first time as Norgay Tension, and release their debut album, Queueing For Everest.
Norgay Tension are four fellow explorers of the infinite invisibility that is music, who've joined together merely because they can.
Without feeling the need to scale the vertiginous heights achieved by Tenzing Norgay, nor to extract meaning from each heavily weighted word, Norgay Tension, by virtue of their own unpressured desire to create together, have indeed fashioned moments of highs and lows, tension and release.
With backgrounds and tastes covering everything from pure power pop, new wave, blues, space rock, folk and Americana, Phil Bennett, Neil Fernandes, Tim Hood, and Howard Shawcross, all sing, write, perform and arrange, making for a truly democratic collaboration.
They come from Perth in West Australia, they've achieved various levels of greatness in their own careers, and they know their way around their instruments.
Their debut album didn't have to be made. It just was. The songs didn't exist and now they do.
Queueing For Everest is their first. It may be their last. Who knows? Why listen to it? Because it's there.
